Glen D. Nelson, MD, is chairman of GDN Holdings, LLC, (Medical Products and Services). Dr. Nelson’s current focus is on long term job creation by assisting healthcare startup ventures, particularly in Minnesota, utilizing the network and experience gained over a 50 year career in healthcare delivery, insurance and the medical device industry.
Prior to founding GDN Holdings, Dr. Nelson was a member of the Board of Directors of Medtronic, Inc. from 1980-2002 where he also served as Executive Vice President from 1986-1988, and Vice Chairman from 1988-2002. Before joining Medtronic, Dr. Nelson practiced surgery from 1969-1986. He was Chairman, President and CEO of the Park Nicollet Medical Center, a large multi-specialty group practice in Minneapolis from 1975-1986. He also was chairman of the board and chief executive officer of American MedCenters, Inc., from 1984-1986.
Dr. Nelson received a BA from Harvard College and an MD from the University of Minnesota. He is an Emeritus Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Nelson was a leader in the widespread adoption of the retail clinic concept. He served as Chairman of MinuteClinic from its inception until the acquisition by CVS.
Dr. Nelson currently serves as chairman of the board for CSI, a public company, and chairman of Inspire Medical Systems, LLC, director for Anhese, LLC, Carlson Holdings, Inc., EarLens Corporation, InterValve, Inc., MyMeds, Inc. NxThera and RedBrick Health. He also serves a non-profit board, American Public Media/Minnesota Public Radio as a Life Trustee and former Chairman, and is a member of Harvard College Gift Committee. In addition to Medtronic, Dr. Nelson previously served on other public boards, including Travelers, DexCom, Inc., Angiotech Pharmaceuticals and American MedCenters.
