Over 300 people packed the ballroom at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston at last week’s sold-out Digital Healthcare Innovation Summit. Healthegy, the producer of the summit and this podcast, will be releasing video highlights from the day.
In this week’s podcast, Breaking Health co-host Tom Salemi catches up with Summit Co-chairs Bill Geary and Robert Mittendorff, MD, MBA, immediately after the close of the day. The trio share their highlights from the event including lessons from former GE CEO Jeff Immelt and broader observations about the maturation of Digital Health.
Immelt absolutely crushed the opening pitch in an interview with DHIS co-chair Bill Geary. In this discussion, Immelt talked Uber, Cerner, Epic, Artificial Intelligence, and credited Sue Siegel for teaching GE how to do corporate venturing well.
He also shared guidance for young companies about building the right culture and following the right model. (“If I was going to study one company,” Immelt said, “it would be Salesforce.com.”)
We’ll have highlights from our East Coast versus West Coast VC battle. The audience was the clear winner in the debate between partners from NEA, KPCB (West Coast), Bessemer, and F-Prime (East Coast); a few body blows were landed, but all agreed excessive valuations will hurt everyone.
We’ll also be sharing some excerpts from a terrific conversation between Troyen Brennan, executive vice president and chief medical officer of CVS Health, and Lonny Reisman, founder and CEO of HealthReveal.
Whether or not you were able to attend the event, you’ll still be able to get the pulse of the room by reading the Digital Health Investment Survey conducted during the summit by Match Point Partners.
